What are Moving Affirmations?
Moving Affirmations are movements similar to tai chi that embody and express universal themes or archetypes. Created by Daniel Lally and Jeff Baugher, the movements may be combined with virtually any affirmation, sacred wisdom, prose, poetry, lyrics and to deepen and affirm beliefs, ideals, personal growth, sensations, thoughts, feelings, memories, while they deepen body wisdom and awareness of how you move through life.
May the movements be modified for my physical condition?
Yes. We invite you to always modify to make the movements work for your comfort, balance and stability.
What are some of the "magical" characteristics?
We often talk about the "inner" and "outer:"
- Externally, the movements may be magically "spun" in many different ways, including combining them with affirmations, sacred wisdom, mission statements and other forms of inspirational material. They may also be modified for nearly everyone, from school age to adult.
- Internally, the movements magically connect and inspire the spirit, mind and body, helping you to deepen and affirm cherished ideals and experiences.
What was the inspiration for the movements?
In 1998, Daniel Lally saw the connection between tai chi movement and the psychology of the six pairs of signs of the zodiac. And soon he and Jeff Baugher teamed up to develop movements that embody the twelve archetypes of the zodiac. As time went on, they saw that many more people would benefit from these movements if they were not limited to the nomenclature of the zodiac, and they developed other more down to earth ways to talk about the movements. For example, the Aries movement also can affirm assertiveness, making a stand, taking charge, not backing down, and overcoming in all its forms, and the movement helps you to develop and affirm that part of the self. So that's another way the movements are magic: they are also not limited by language or culture.
Should I practice some or all of the movements?
Beyond our weekly moving affirmations, we believe that it is important to regularly practice all of the movements. Our DVD helps you to get comfortable with all twelve movements, and the AM and PM forms (coming spring 2015) are perfect, short and sweet ways for you to practice all the movements.
Are teaching certifications available?
Yes. After which, if you have not already, you will need to purchase at least one of our DVDs and books to learn the movement instructions and breathing patterns. If you are interested in teaching these movements, we require that you experience a living, breathing initiation into the movements with us in person through a workshop or private training. And finally, in the in-person certification process, you demonstrate your proficiency at "doing and cueing" the movements as we model in our DVDs. Contact us for more information or to schedule a workshop or private training.
